As keynote lectures, Mr. Hirohiko Takeda, Director of HR Dept. and Skill Development Dept. at IZUMI Co., Ltd. and Visiting Professor Eiichiro Suzuki at Hiroshima University talked about “the Desired Talents in the Industry”.
Mr. Takeda stated, “If you want to take a lead in the world, it is critical to learn what kind of environment your competitors are under and what are their driving forces. It is human resources that promote companies’ growth. It’s exactly the same to your research areas. Try to be such resources to be independent, curious, challenging, and adding value to any works/tasks as worthwhile.”
Meanwhile, Prof. Suzuki stated, “It is getting more globally competitive to develop human resources, where doctorate talents are highly expected of creating innovation. There exists a vicious circle in the doctorate courses (1. Outstanding resources are not always advancing to the doctorate courses, 2. Quality of the doctorate resources varies, which loses transparency in identifying their values, 3. Companies are not fully open to hire doctorate resources, which results in the above step #1 again.). To break it out, academia, industry and students need to understand the meaning of, expectation of, needs for the doctorate resources. We should leverage the outcome of the panel discussion and group discussion at the Doctors’ Seminar by the Japan Chemistry Society so that we can generate desirable cycle (1. Outstanding resources start to advance to the doctorate courses, 2. Doctorate resources turn out to be more value-adding, 3.They start maximizing their competencies in the industry and 4. Companies increase doctorate hires and raise their salaries.).”
Misako Aida, Executive & Vice President of Hiroshima University (in charge of University Reform) briefed about the progress of the HIRAKU program, followed by the debriefing sessions by the respective participants to the two programs, “Program for the Practical Training and Engagement of Innovators” and “Program for the Promotion of Young Researchers’ Independence and Mobility by Introducing a Tenure-Track System”.
