【Challenges】

Challenge #1 How to utilize the rooftop in a certain area

Have you ever thought about a rooftop in your daily life?
Once you start thinking about it, you’ll come up with a lot of questions such as “What kind of space is it?” “How is it utilized?” “What kind of roles a rooftop is playing in the building or in the neighbor?”, etc.
To work on this challenge, we will fix a certain area to tackle and conduct future visioning to draw a future scenario of the area in 5 to 10 years. Based on the scenario, we will think about the future state and deepen understanding of rooftops for its utilization.

Challenge #2 How to create an “AREA” in Shitami, everyone want to live in

When a new academic term begins, students to commute to the Higashi Hiroshima Campus of Hiroshima University start their new lives in Shitami.
From the first day of school until graduation, most of students spend majority of their time, mainly in the area between their homes at Shitami and the campus, which is called “Shitami-Completion Style.”
To begin with, we will deepen our understanding of what kind of experience make us feel “we’re living meaning life” or “we want to continue to live in the area”. Getting insights from there, we will draw “the ideal Shitami” and think about community / city development.

Challenge #3 How to become a “Window” of the Saijo Sakagura-Street

Koizumi Shinbunho’ve been delivering newspapers in Higashi Hiroshima City for more than 100 years, which means that we’ve continued to deliver important information to the people living in the area. In addition to the newspapers and the city’s public relations magazines, we’ve started to deliver information in different ways, such as through publishing own community paper and development of a space for international students and residents to gather.
Can we consider Koizumi’s shop resources in the Sakagura-Street nearby JR Saijo Station as “Window”, and think about diversified roles of the “Window” to transmit information, to receive information, to connect people, and to gather people.
To work on this challenge, we will conduct future visioning of the JR Saijo Station area and Sakagura-Street in 5 to 10 years and draw a future image of “what JR Saijo Station area and Sakagura-Street will look like.” Based on the image, we will think about what kind “Window” can be created with other available resources.
